Family & Special Purpose Housing
The Family & Special Purpose Housing portfolio consists of different programs: Direct Rentals, Rental Assistance Benefit, and Affordable Housing. Eligibility for these programs are based on annual income, housing need, level of assets and ability to pay rent. Funding is provided by the Federal Government & Alberta Government.
Direct Rentals
Publicly owned apartments, duplexes and single family homes ranging from 1 to 3 bedroom units. Rent is based on 30% of household income.
Eligibility
- Unable to acquire or maintain adequate or suitable housing without paying more than 30% of total income.
- Total annual household income must be less than the established core need household income limit (HIL).
- All property, cash & liquid asset value must not exceed $25,000. Asset exclusions include necessary clothing, furnishings, and vehicles worth less than $4,000.
Rental Assistance Benefit
The Rental Assistance Benefit is a provincially funded program that allows families and individuals to remain in their current private rental. Rent is based on 30% of household income. The monthly rent subsidy is paid directly to the tenant.

Affordable Housing
Privately owned affordable apartment buildings ranging from bachelor to 3 bedroom units, including 25 wheelchair accessible units. Rental rates are 10% or more below market rents in the community.

- Total annual household income must be less than the established core need household income limit (HIL).
Temporary Rental Assistance Benefit
The Temporary Rental Assistance Benefit provides a modest subsidy for working households with low income or those between jobs. Support is intended to help eligible tenants afford their rent, while they stabilize or improve their situation.
